Our Story …

We are really happy to announce that we completed Mystery Box Rally 2022!! Mystery Box Rally is one of the largest community lead fundraising events for the Cancer Council in Australia. The rally had us driving a car that is 25 years or older along outback roads. We did approximately 2,500kms in 5 days! We set off from Port Lincoln & return back to Port Lincoln 5 days later, each day in between was a mystery, we had no idea where we were heading until the morning of! In order for us to participate we needed to raise $5,500 and we smashed past it, every dollar raised goes to the Cancer Council! We thank all who have supported us so far and would very much appreciate any additional donations before the donation page is finished.

The car we took is a 1994 BMW 318i, relatively rust free and all the usual charm of an older European automobile. It cost $1000 and survived the rally well

Here's what I'm doing …

Teams will drive their own 25+ year old cars along a mystery route in this unique 5-day challenge, all in the name of cancer research. The route is a loop starting and finishing at the same location, but all the other details are kept under wraps, only given to the teams each morning.

The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.

Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally."

Team update

It has been a tough 18 months for everyone and COVID has stuffed us up again, unless boarders are open before October 1st Will and I are heading on our Mystery Box Rally adventure in August, next year.

While this news is devastating it is also good to know that our teams position in the rally has been transferred to the new date with no additional requirements

Rally management has also reported the 2022 rally will be at a different location to the original Rockhampton, so anywhere in Australia is possible.

The rally car is still running strong and looks as ridiculous as ever with more in the works to kit it out further, please do share any ideas or sponsorship that you think will look good (or hilarious).

Will and I would like to thank all who have donated already, especially the Mansfield CWA who chipped in $200 towards our cause.

We are currently sitting at $5,230 and only need $270 more to hit our $5,500 goal (minimum needed to take part in the rally), anything we raise over that goal is all gravy for the Cancer Council

Fingers crossed we are in a better position next year.

Cheers

Chris Lewis

We did it, there and back with our trusty Beemer. Some thought the car would not make it (myself included at one point) but she chugged on and came out of it relatively in one piece.

But cancer does not rest, it keeps on going and it does not discriminate. The stories we heard on the rally from survivors or friends and family of those who lost their battle really drove home the reason we partook in the rally. Every dollar counts and we appreciate everyone who has assisted in us in getting over $6,000 raised.

There is still a couple of weeks left before they close donations and if you miss the deadline we will be back for the next rally in 2023

Thank you to all

Chris & Will

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Mystery Box Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Mystery Box Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

 • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
 • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
 • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
