Andi and Murray are really happy to announce that they have been accepted to take part in the Mystery Box Rally 2021 (which due to COVID got delayed and re-routed). Mystery Box Rally is one of the largest community lead fundraising events for the Cancer Council in Australia having raised over $4.5 million in the last 9 years. This rally will have us driving a car that is 25 years or older along outback roads. We will do approximately 2,500kms in 5 days! We set off from Port Lincoln & return back to Port Lincoln 5 days later, each day in between is a mystery, we have no idea where we will be headed until the morning of! In order for us to participate we need to raise $3,500 and every dollar raised goes to the Cancer Council! We would very much appreciate it if you could donate to the cause & help us on our journey.
Murray was diagnosed with bowel cancer in January 2017. After a series of treatments including radiation, chemotherapy and two operations in mid-2018, Murray is now fighting fit and all clear. Throughout this ordeal Murray was supported by his wife Andi and my 4 beautiful daughters Ruby, Willow, Pip and Eadie, as well as family and friends - but it was the care and dedication of the incredible medical practitioners, carers and support staff that we encountered along the journey that was really inspirational.
Men often don't discuss or open up about their medical health. After Murray’s experiences he committed to openly discussing men's health whenever the opportunity arose. It was through these encounters that he discovered just how many people are touched by the scourge of cancer.
So Andi and Murray have been motivated to raise money for the Cancer Council, and what better way than driving our little $200 1982 Daihatsu Charade around the country. A 3 cylinder, 993 cc engine coupled to a lethargic 2 speed automatic transmission directs nearly 40 horsepower to those tiny 13" front wheels. Ground clearance is all of 6" when loaded - no doubt there will be some challenges and fun times along the way.
We hope you can get on board to follow the journey and provide support.
Thanks a heap from Andi and Murray.
Teams will drive their own 25+ year old cars along a mystery route in this unique 5-day challenge, all in the name of cancer research. The route is a loop starting and finishing at the same location, but all the other details are kept under wraps, only given to the teams each morning.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally."
