Our Story …

Mike and Dave are taking part in Mystery Box Rally in 2022!!

We fund the car, its preparation, our accommodation and all other costs associated with our entry in the rally. We are asking you to help us raise funds to enable further Cancer Research.

Mystery Box Rally is one of the largest community led fundraising events for the Cancer Council in Australia having raised over $5.5 million in the last 10 years.

Our entry is dedicated to Pennie Zwar and Mark Dunkerton, two wonderful people who were lost in their thirties and forties. We hope ongoing research will help our friends who are presently facing this threat, and those close to them that feel so helpless.

We will be driving a 26 year old Toyota Corolla (ridiculously unsuitable for the Australian Bush, but it is supposed to be a challenge!) along remote outback roads. We will (hopefully!) do approximately 2,500kms in 5 days.

We set off from Port Lincoln & return to Port Lincoln 5 days later, each day in between is a mystery, we have no idea where we will be headed until just before departure the next morning.

Every dollar raised goes to the Cancer Council. We would very much appreciate it if you could donate to this great cause & help us on our journey!

Here's what I'm doing …

Teams will drive their own 25+ year old cars along a mystery route in this unique 5-day challenge, all in the name of cancer research. The route is a loop starting and finishing at the same location, but all the other details are kept under wraps, only given to the teams each morning.

The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.

Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally."

I'm not sure about being bold, brave or strong, but I'm absolutely certain we will have some fun! Thanks for your generous donation. Mike x

Mark, I am sure that we are “fortunate” to be able to participate but I think “bold”, “brave” and possibly, “foolhardy” best describe the use of a hopefully “strong” car in the form of Rita the Corolla. Many thanks for your words, support and donation.

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Mystery Box Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Mystery Box Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

  • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
  • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
  • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
