We wanted to let you know that we're taking part in the 2022 Mystery Box Rally in partnership with the Cancer Council of Australia.
Mystery Box Rally is one of the most successful community-participation fundraising events for the Cancer Council in Australia having raised over $5.5 million in the last 10 years.
We both have been touched by cancer in our families and are looking forward to raising money for this worthy cause. We will be dedicating the rally to my brother Christopher -'Gormo'- who passed away from kidney cancer in October 2020.
We are sourcing an old cracker of a car that is over 25 years old and where comfort is not a factor but being road worthy is a must! This rally will have us navigating along outback roads and tracks. We will do over 2,500kms in 5 days and sleep under the stars at night.
We set off from Port Lincoln, South Australia on 25 June & return there 5 days later. Each day on the road is a mystery - teams have no idea where we will be headed until just before departure the next morning.
We are aiming to raise $5,000 and every dollar raised goes to the Cancer Council. We will be covering all costs of the vehicle, transportation costs, accommodation (and insurances), etc personally. We would very much appreciate it if you could donate any sum to the cause & help fund cancer research and awareness. All donations over $2 are tax deductible and online donations into the WE GIVE fundraising page receive a tax receipt via email straight away.
Kind Regards,
Troy and Neil

Team: ‘The Kooks’*
(* Kooks is a surfing term - ‘A surfer who has an exaggerated perception of their surf skills. Their lack of surf knowledge, especially concerning surf ethics, usually interferes with other surfers’ fun in the water’. This was one of Gormo’s favourite sources of entertainment (and frustration), as a Standup Paddleboarder, when he met these characters on the water and we will be fairly likely to carry on this fine tradition).
Teams will drive their own 25+ year old cars along a mystery route in this unique 5-day challenge, all in the name of cancer research. The route is a loop starting and finishing at the same location, but all the other details are kept under wraps, only given to the teams each morning.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally."

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Mystery Box Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.
